Announcing Tainted Eden 1. The book opens on Sophia’s first day at Sanjiken Magic Academy, the only college in the walled city of Sanjiken, humanity’s last refuge. She’s part of a freshman class of about a dozen students, here to learn about their magical abilities. Some of them have mysterious and embarrassing magical mutations – called quirks – that activate when they are aroused.
Over a hundred years ago, the world was changed forever when manna, a magical substance that is magic, desire, and fecundity in solid form, started raining from the sky all over the earth. Plants and soon animals and even people were changed by ingesting the substance. As plants and animals grew bigger and stronger and gained magical abilities, including the ability to crossbreed with any species, humanity seemed doomed until they too developed magic to help them fight against the wilds – the new term for any land outside of human civilization.
